Beau Bronz - How to Prepare Your Skin for Fake Tan and Make Your Look Last Longer

If you've decided to use a fake tanning product, you've made a wise decision. Not only can it disguise imperfections and give you a beautiful all-over glow, but it’s also much safer for your skin than a natural tan.

To avoid embarrassing fake tan disasters though, you need to take extra care during the preparation process. Let’s take a look at what you should be concentrating on.

Clothing

Fake tan can be almost impossible to get out of clothes, so wear something dark coloured that you don’t mind ruining slightly when you’re applying your product. Also, be mindful of bathroom surfaces and bedding. If you use fake tan regularly, consider dedicating some clothes so you aren’t spoiling your best-loved items.

Hair removal

Try to carry out any hair removal at least 24 hours in advance. This will give time for your pores to fully close, and will ensure that you have a smooth and sleek surface as a canvas. Shaving and waxing are both fine, so just go with your preferred method.

Exfoliating

Any dry patches of skin can totally ruin your tan, so exfoliate well to avoid any blotches or streaks. Use a large-grain body scrub or an exfoliating sponge, and take extra care to be gentle. You should be removing any dead skin cells, but you don’t want to risk damaging healthy skin or causing irritation.

Moisturising

The final step of your preparation process is moisturising. Use a generous amount of your favourite product, and pay extra attention to dry areas such as elbows and knees. If possible, apply moisturiser a few times in the day running up to your tan application.

Making your look last longer

Once you've achieved that perfect tan, you’ll want it to last as long as possible. Apply moisturiser every day to combat dryness and keep your skin smooth, and remember to reapply on a regular basis. Look out for products that will build up to a healthy glow over a period of time, to help you keep your look fresh and as intense as you’d like.
